The death of a close one can be quite difficult to handle for even adults, let alone children. But nevertheless, death remains an inevitable truth of life. Like it or not, you would have to talk to your child about death, sooner or later. The task of talking about death to your child can be quite challenging but there is nothing to worry as the following tips will help you with the same.
When talking to your child about death, try to state the facts as simple and as clearly as you can. Tell your child that death is natural and he needs to be scared of nothing. If your child is too young to understand the concept of death, then you may try explaining him/her by saying simple things like the deceased's body is no longer working.
Most parents try not to make death a sobbing affair. However, it is not really wise to hide the concerned emotions. Tell your child if you are feeling sad and let him/her grieve too. The sooner your child vents out his emotions, the better it is for both of you.
Talking to your child about death can indeed be difficult. But, with a little patience and perseverance you can talk it out successfully.
