How To Deal With The Death Of An Employee
Death is an ultimate truth and the grief it brings along is a profound quality emotion in humans. Death of your loved ones breaks you down and you experience a deep turmoil in your minds. Similarly, a death at your workplace is also not easy to deal with. People at the workplace are your second family and the death of your co-worker may leave you agitated and depressed. Especially if the death is sudden, it becomes difficult to deal with, as you are used to the person being around you. It becomes difficult to cope up with this tragedy and move on in life.

After the death of your colleague, it is humane of you to be concerned about the well being of his family. The people who are left behind need your support the most. You must make the family aware of the benefits the company can provide to the kin of the dead. There could be some insurance policies too that would be helpful in times of need. Or, it would be very thoughtful of all the workers to get together and pay for the burial rites; especially if the company pays no compensation at all.

Also, it would be great if the colleagues would attend all the death services of the deceased, like, 'the wake' and 'the actual funeral'. These ceremonies are a good way of mourning together and remembering the person who has died. During these rituals, you can appreciate the way the person has been a part of your life. Attending these services is not easy as you may get depressed to see the person not being a part of your routine anymore. But, for the better you get to console the bereaved and these services are a good vent for your grief too.

To add warmth, you can have any of the two colleagues read out the eulogy at one of the services. This is a good way of showing concern on the behalf of the company. This would also send a message that the company would support them with the best of its will.

Well, it is ruthless but it is important to change the atmosphere of the work place; you must think of filling the vacant place with a new employee. If you do not do so, the company might face a work log and at the same time the grief spread in the office would deter others from doing their jobs. Till the time you don't find a suitable employee, the work of the deceased can be distributed among the existing ones.

We cannot move away from death, it approaches all in due time. Therefore, we must learn to face the reality and tread our path forward in life.
